LEEDership is familiar with the requirements of BEAM having been engaged in the development of the rating system since its inception in 1995.
BEAM –
Building Environmental Assessment Method
BEAM (formerly
HK-BEAM) has three rating systems:
HK-BEAM
4/04 ‘New Buildings’ 2004
HK-BEAM
5/04 ‘Existing Buildings’ 2004
HK-BEAM
‘Interiors’ – PILOT version 2008
Certification Process
The
assessment and certification process depends on which BEAM standard is used, but generally follows the following steps:
# The
Assessor issues the client with the BEAM
applicable standard and questionnaires, and conducts a briefing for the
project team;
# The
Assessor meets with the relevant members of the project team to explain
the performance criteria, assessment methods and documentation to be
submitted;
# At a
preliminary stage the Assessor issues a Provisional Report which
identifies credits achieved, or likely to be achieved, and advises on
possible improvements;
# The
Assessor checks the project progress during the construction of new or
refurbished buildings or interiors, or periodically inspects an
existing building;
# The
Assessor may carry out further visits to the site before issuing a
final report to the BEAM Society Executive Committee;
# The BEAM
Society confirms the grade of award achieved and issues a certificate.
